Choosing Accommodation Near Pretoria
When your business, leisure, holiday, or tourism travels take you to a distant destination that’s away from your home, you invariably need accommodation, which can be defined as “a room, group of rooms, or building in which someone may live or stay”. Although this definition provides a clear meaning, it doesn’t differentiate between various types, styles, and classes of lodgings, which differ widely in what they offer, irrespective of where they’re located – in Pretoria or anywhere else in the world.
To avoid uncertainty, bona fide accommodation establishments apply for evaluation and grading by an independent, recognised rating body. Official star rating systems, with stars ranging from 1-5, are recognised and accepted worldwide, giving prospective guests a good idea of the standard of accommodation and services they may expect.
Types of Accommodation
In South Africa, the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa is responsible for rating and awarding star grading to various types of accommodation-offering establishments – guest houses, hotels, B&Bs, self-catering apartments, chalets, lodges, and boutique hotels. Our 4-star Kleinkaap Boutique Hotel in Centurion, a short distance from Pretoria, falls within the latter category.
From Trekker to National Administrative Capital
Pretoria has accumulated a rich and colourful history since its founding in 1855, when a Voortrekker leader, Marthinus Pretorius, decided to halt his trek here, naming this place on the banks of the Apies River after his father, Andries Pretorius. This new settlement became the capital of the South African Republic five years later. Today, Pretoria is the administrative capital of the country and one of its major centres of commerce, industry, academia, and tourism.
Top Hospitality Standards
With a host of establishments now offering accommodation in Pretoria, how does one choose, especially if you prefer something out of the ordinary, where top standards of hospitality are the norm? The star grading system is an invaluable guideline, whilst a more intimate boutique hotel concept is a perfect match for sophisticated guests who expect much more than a mere bed for the night.
There are several prerequisites for boutique hotels:
- A serene, picturesque location and setting.
- Unique architectural design and layout.
- Fewer than 100 guest accommodation rooms, individually and tastefully furnished, appointed, and decorated.
- Discreet, personal service and attention to detail to ensure guests’ comfort.
- Fine-dining restaurant facilities.
- An intimate, home-away-from-home atmosphere.
Kleinkaap offers all this and a great deal more. We’re located in a leafy Centurion suburb, Clubview, close to Pretoria. Our 34 luxurious guest accommodation suites and our restaurant, the 16th Lintel, are modelled on the Cape Dutch style of our original, beautifully restored homestead.
Every inch of our superb welcoming accommodation and guest services indicate our dedication to guests’ comfort and our efforts to ensure their enjoyment of Kleinkaap and Pretoria.
